CONTENT WARNINGS

IN THE WAKE OF THE WAR

Common Prejudices:

Period typical attitudes throughout to race, sex, class, gender identity, sexuality, disability, and mental health issues. The MMC was wounded during the Battle of Waterloo and was left badly scarred and unable to read or write due to alexia caused by a fever on the brain. He is assisted in hiding his alexia from those around him in order to save face and retain his agency. The MFC is shown to be neurodiverse and asexual. She has difficulty parsing social situations, and she experiences autistic shutdown. Her family are shown to be unsupportive. The MMC accidentally triggers her, but he adapts his behaviour once he realises what has happened. From then on, he attempts to assist her whilst still respecting her agency. A young FC is shown to have an intellectual disability. She is supported by those around her.

 

Romantic Content and/or Consensual Sexual Content:

There is a slow burn Friends-To-Lovers Forbidden Romance between the MMC and another MC. They are shown to be accepted by those in their immediate circle. Two other MCs are shown to have faked a death in order to be together. A FC is referenced as being lesbian. She is shown to be accepted by those around her. There are detailed descriptions of mutual masturbation and oral sex between two consenting adult males.

 

Animal Cruelty:

Period typical attitudes throughout to animal cruelty and the use of animal based products including meat, fur, and leather. One narrative mention of the MMC having shot rabbits to provide food for his household and for the local poor. The MMC talks briefly about how his estate has too many rabbits and not enough natural predators. There is plot relevant discussion of fox hunting with hounds, however the MMC is shown to be anti-hunting and no foxes are hunted or harmed during the events of the book.

 

Violence and/or Gore:

Detailed descriptions of genre typical violence including firearms, bladed weapons, and unarmed combat. The deliberate tainting of bladed weapons with dirt and/or excrement is mentioned. An infected wound that was treated using maggots is described.

Death and/or Dying:

The MMC is shown to be the only member of his family who is still alive. A young MC employed by the MMC is an orphan. An older FC is mentioned as being at risk of death due to an infected tooth. The MMC's mother is stated to have died from a similar issue many years previously.

 

Sexual Violence: 

A young FC employed by the MMC describes how she escaped attempted rape and sexual assault in her previous place of employment. A MC attempts to intimidate the MMC by forcing him into a non-consensual kiss.

A DELINEATION OF DREAMS

​

Common Prejudices:

Period typical attitudes to race, sex, class, gender identity, sexuality, disability, and mental health issues. The MFC is bisexual. A wealthy MC reveals himself to be bisexual, and is repeatedly declared to be mad by those around him. It is implied that his high social status gains him enough leeway to get away with both of these things. Another less privileged MC is revealed to be a closeted transgender and bisexual. He is shown to be accepted and protected by those known to him. Two MCs are stated to be in a committed relationship with each other. They are accepted by those known to them. A FC from 1989 expresses concern over being a BIPOC in 1814, but nothing happens to confirm her fears.

Romantic Content and/or Consensual Sexual Content:

The MFC is pursued romantically by several of the MCs, and engages in consensual romantic and sexual activity with more than one of them. There is some kissing and a number of Fade-To-Black romantic moments, but no explicitly described sex scenes. The MFC states that her longterm girlfriend has recently dumped her with no warning. The FMC flirts with a MC whilst she is under the influence of a narcotic substance, but he gently rejects her. There is repeatedly questionable adherence to acceptable polyamory etiquette by the MFC.

Animal Cruelty:

Period typical attitudes throughout to animal cruelty and the use of animal based products including meat, fur, and leather. Plot relevant references to fox hunting with hounds, but no actual foxes are harmed during the events of the book. The MFC expresses her discomfort with fox hunting and other blood sports, and also with wearing fur and leather.

 

Violence and/or Gore:

Detailed descriptions of genre typical violence including firearms, bladed weapons, and unarmed combat. The MFC fights off a pair of opponents with her bare hands in order to escape from an attempted rape. There is repeated mention of ritual sacrifice involving knives, and one instance of this is described explicitly. The MFC pummels a MC with an improvised weapon in self-defence. Several people are held at gunpoint by a group of armed MCs. Arson is used against a supernatural threat. It is implied that the remains of a deceased supernatural creature are dismembered with axes.

Death and/or Dying:

A FC is ritually stabbed to death, and this is described explicitly. A MC is shot in the head with a pistol, and his corpse is described explicitly. The details of his death are then discussed. A FC is accidentally shot through the heart with a pistol, and this is described explicitly. A MC is bayoneted to death, and this is described explicitly. A MC and a FC are described as having been found dead. It is implied that their remains show evidence of extreme violence. A MC states that several other MCs have been killed in battle. A clearly traumatised MC talks about a recent massacre that was carried out using supernatural means. A MC is sentenced to death by hanging and imprisoned to await his fate. A FC is stated to have been ritually murdered some years previously, but her death is not described in any detail. A MC is stated as having died in a fall from a horse. A MC is forced to jump out of a window to his presumed death. A MC is attacked and killed by a supernatural creature, and this is described explicitly. A supernatural creature is killed using firearms, and this is described explicitly. A MC is accidentally shot with a pistol, and the discovery of his body is described explicitly. Numerous deaths are reversed by supernatural means.

Sexual Violence: 

A MC warns a FC about trusting one of the other FCs, and advises that she isn't a safe person to accept help from. A MC flirts publicly with a younger MC who isn't attracted to him. Another MC later states that the first MC is known to be sexually predatory. A FC attempts to force the MFC into prostitution, but she does not succeed. A MC attempts to rape the MFC, but he does not succeed. A MC publicly gropes and kisses the MFC whilst they are travelling together. When she objects due to his poor hygiene, he intimidates her. A MC forces another MC to reveal his body to him. A MC is implied to be using abusing his position as a doctor to molest his patients, but this is never proven.
